Helping young people realise their creative potential...

This is The Comedy Trust's newest and most exciting programme yet. Laughter Lines is an 6 week programme delivered by a professional comedian and a creative writing practitioner. Working with Key stages 3 and 4 the participants will work towards developing a piece of creative writing using the different styles of comedy that they have learnt. The project will culminate in a performance at which the young people will perform their work to friends, family and peers.

Laughter lines will use comedy to engage young people in reading and creative writing. The project will unlock young people’s creativity and encourage them to experiment and have fun with words and language. They will explore the use of comedy in the written word looking at different styles in literature and text from Shakespeare to newspaper print and advertising. The project will help to increase young people’s vocabulary but more importantly promoting a love of language and an appetite to learn.

This project uses comedy to engage young people in reading and creative writing and aims to:

  • Unlock young people’s creativity and encourage them to experiment and have fun with words and language.

  • Increase young people’s vocabulary and promote a love of language and an appetite to learn.

Liverpool is one of the top ten constituencies with the lowest number of people aged 16+ without a degree or equivalent qualification. This project will help address these issues and promote progression and achievement amongst those who are most vulnerable.

"With this they're getting up infront of people and learning how to speak in a group which alot of time is very difficult...it is something that would benefit them in every lesson as that sort of confidence can benefit them in every lesson because that kind of confidence is transferable to whatever you do in life." - Claire Higham, Teacher
