National Stress Awareness Day

Today is National Stress Awareness Day. No doubt this is a day that most people (if not everyone) can relate to at some point in their life. It is important to understand at what point being stressed can intervene into your everyday life and what to do. Stress can be

triggered in different ways dependant on the person, meaning that not everyone is stressed by the same things. Issues such a personal and professional relationships and financial worries are just some of the triggers that can cause stress. Here are some facts about stress and how to deal with it.

When you are feeling stressed, it is your body’s way of telling you that you are under too much pressure mentally. Being stressed can lead to a serious illness if not dealt with. If you are feeling stressed, it is important to keep a diary and log what triggers your stress. By doing this, you can get help to develop coping mechanisms that help you to deal in times of pressure.

You can make some small changes in your daily life that may take some of the stress away such as:

- Being more active.

- Cutting out bad habits like drinking alcohol.

- Having a more positive outlook on life.

- One of the major ways to tackle stress is by talking to someone about your problems. This could be anyone from a family member, a friend or even a GP. Getting your worries off your chest can make you feel relieved and saying your problems aloud can sometimes help you come up with solutions.

- Just remember that if you are feeling stressed for whatever reason, you are not alone.
