Why is Comedy so important?

Hi, I'm Liam and I've been interning at The Comedy Trust for the past 6 weeks and I've got to say that it has been one of the best experiences of my life, having recently started working with them during the past years Comedy Festival in which I was a volunteer having enjoyed that so much, I saw that The Comedy Trust was looking for a Marketing Assistant, which I immediately jumped at the chance to join.

6 weeks in and this is my first blog post, I have never really wrote a blog post before, so it's took me a while to think of a good topic to write about and be engaging, I'd actually wrote a long blog ready to go but I just found it boring so I restarted it and here we are. Anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw this quote the other day and it somewhat affected me, which was: "You don't realise how much you don't laugh, until you do laugh"

Now that's something I'd never really thought about before but once you do it is a bit shocking to think about it because it's true. (like there is no reason for the alphabet to be in the order that it is) Everyone laughs A LOT less than they do laugh, which I don't think is a good thing, I think that we should all be encouraged to laugh as much and often as possible. I personally suffer from anxiety and depression and often have more bad days than good, which honestly drains on you, which makes it harder to feel better or get into a better mood, and going back to that quote, there are times where I don't think I'll laugh again because everything is getting too much. But even when I feel like this, I always know I have Comedy, be it a sitcom, a funny movie, a stand up on Netflix or live stand up. I always have something that will take my mind off things and brighten my mood, just for a little while, as cliche as it sounds, laughter really is the best medicine. A good example is I have a go to show, that I know will make me feel better no matter how I'm feeling, Impractical Jokers, for 25/30 mins I can just forget everything that is going on and just laugh. I was even lucky enough to meet some of the cast and tell them and thank them for how much they help me. They must have thousands of people that tell them the same thing over and over again but the fact that I told them and they listened and told me to stay strong and to keep smiling is something that I'll never forget.

Back to the topic at hand, Why is Comedy so important? I personally joined The Comedy Trust because of the work they do working with people with mental health and helping them through Comedy. To me Comedy is so important because you don't really know what anyone is going through mentally or in their private lives and just to be able to get away and forget about everything for an hour or two with comedy, especially with everything that is going on with the world at the moment, Comedy is one of the most important things in life.
